Wales - Cymru
Wales(Cymru) as a country may not be very familiar to some of you. It is situated within the UK, and lies to the west of England (Scotland to the North), while Ireland Lies to the west of Wales across the sea. You may see words on this site which don't appear to make any sense - that's because  they are written in Welsh-'Cymraeg'  ( I am a welsh learner!) - but wherever possible the titles of the paintings have been translated while place names have not.

What were they? - Olew ar cynfas/Oil/impasto on canvas  495 x 995mm    SOLD

I live within a truly ancient and remarkable culture which not only has it's own language, but also it's own traditions of story-telling, poetry and music (the visual arts being 'recent' by comparison), and which are still carried out in the annual 'Eisteddfod' even to date.

Rwy’n byw mewn rhan o’r byd gyda hen, hen ddiwylliant hynafol a rhyfeddol sydd â’i hiaith ei hun, ac sy’n dal i ymarfer traddodiad crefft y cyfarwydd, barddoniaeth a cherddoriaeth (‘diweddar’ yw’r celfyddydau gweledol mewn cymhariaeth) ac sy’n parhau yn fyw ac yn iach hyd heddiw.
Rwy’n ffodus fy mod wedi fy mendithio â’r ddawn, y gallu a’r profiad i ail ymweld â’r tirwedd cyfrin hwn sy’n gartref i chwedlau a mythau fel y gall y genhedlaeth nesaf ail-afael yn ei gwreiddiau.

Welsh art is as diverse as the culture within Wales. While it is impossible to categorize the country with a single sweeping statement or sentiment the same may be said of  the Art it creates. While other Welsh Artists are documenting the social aspect of Wales through Absract or mixed media, I'm revisiting the landscapes and seascapes  of the Country, and attempting to bring a traditional subject matter into a contemporary focus using variousl painting techniques, 'wide screen'  formats, and in some cases combining digital technology with natural materials.....enabling me to visit an ancient land through a 21st century perspective.
More recently I've also found myself engaging the industrial landscape, which deservedly needs to be portrayed as an integral part of the Welsh scenery.

"The Welsh Castles (or as they are known in Wales - the ENGLISH Castles!) feature in my paintings on a regular basis, but only as a  object within the landscape - as much as the Mountains, rivers or sea are unavoidable!
Some people dislike my paintings because of this inclusion, while others  love my paintings, because as teenagers they learned early on how to storm the castles, have their 1st drink/smoke, their 1st party, 1st taste of freedom - and conquer without a care!"
